What personal data we collect and why we collect it

I am committed to protecting your privacy online. I  appreciate that you do not want the personal information you provide to me distributed indiscriminately and this policy explains how I collect information about you, what I do with it and what controls you have. Who I/We are ? The website is owned by The Captains Store and the Data Controller is Alan Birdseye. The Data Controller is responsible for and controls the processing of your personal data in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 (the “Act”).  Personal data I may collect about you. I can only provide the goods and services ordered by you if you provide me with your personal data. For the purpose of providing these services, I collect personal data about you such as: your name, address, e-mail address, telephone and mobile phone numbers.
I will use the information you provide for the purposes described in this privacy policy to which you agreed to at the time your data was obtained. Your personal data will be used solely to provide the information, goods and services offered through our website to you, for billing and order fulfilment, as per GDPR data protection 2018.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your e-mail address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service Privacy Policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

If you need to contact me please email me via: thecaptainsstore@outlook.com I will always try and respond with in 24hrs. Any information you send me will be used solely for the reason you have contacted me for.  I do not use the information submitted through them for marketing purposes, and messages are deleted as soon as no longer required.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on my site you may opt in to saving your name, e-mail address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, I will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, I will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

I use Google Analytics tools purely to see how people interact with my website, and which pages are vued.
Such data is collected anonymously and used for analysis purposes only.

Who we share your data with.

Your data is only shared with specific companies necessary to fulfill your order requests. Companies I share your
details with would be Couriers, Royal mail, and payment service company’s. eg Paypal. This data is limited only to the function of them providing the products or services to enable me to fulfill your purchase.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), I also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Contact form entries are only kept until reason you have contacted me is answered. analytics records are kept for a year, and customer purchase records for ten years.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Your contact information.

Your contact information is solely used for the purpose of fulfilling any orders you place with me.
I do not pass on or sell your details to any other body or organisation with the exception of fulfilling your purchase.

Payments.

We accept payments through PayPal. When processing payments, some of your data will be passed to PayPal, including information required to process or support the payment, such as the purchase total and billing information.
